    Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

    Paducah, KY Location

    Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering and Testing, Inc. (BFW), a Paducah based engineering firm, is actively seeking an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist for our Paducah, KY location. This position will be part-time or possibly full-time at a later date.

    Essential Job Functions:


    • Promptly and professionally answers the telephone which requires paging, transferring calls, or taking messages, etc.
    • Greet clients in a personalized, friendly, inviting manner
    • Manages the out of office calendar and set up meetings
    • Format information for internal and external communications – memos, emails, presentations and reports
    • Maintains and orders office supplies
    • Maintain the office filing
    • Creating and maintaining spread sheets and word documents
    • Ensures outgoing mail is processed daily and picks up mail from the post office.
    • Shipping tasks (creating shipping labels, packaging, delivery to shipping service)
    • Must be proficient in the use of office equipment, including computers, scanners, fax and copiers.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Utilize AutoCAD drafting software to develop construction documents
    • Perform quantity take-off analysis from construction documents
    • Complete reports to supplement engineer design

    Transportation Designer

    Cape Girardeau (MO)

    Bacon, Farmer, Workman Engineering & Testing, Inc. is actively seeking an experienced Transportation Designer for our Cape Girardeau (MO) office.

    Essential Job Functions:


    • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in the planning and design of roadways, structures and site developments; stormwater management / drainage design; and surveying experience.
    • Demonstrated training and/or experience (preferred) with MicroStation, Power Geopak V8i Powered by OpenRoads Technology, and other related design software applications as required for plan production.
    • Develop plans and related documents from engineering input; perform mathematical calculations; and prepare details, and other related requirements as part of the overall bidding / construction document package.
    • Perform calculations and provide engineering solutions to complex problems with oversight from a professional engineer or supervisor/manager.
    • Adhere to project deadlines and keep supervising staff informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
    • Investigate field conditions and read and comprehend as-built drawings, construction specifications, client base standards and technical information to develop drawings.
    • Coordinate with project engineers, team members and others to understand, develop, and deliver drawings.
    • Must be willing to work as a team member in a fast and productive paced work environment to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
    • Must also be self-motivated, friendly, positive, accurate, and pay strict attention to detail and direction.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Primary Qualifications:

    • Maintains technical knowledge with regards to computers, software, and design techniques learn and adapt to new programs and adjust to changes in product and client demands.
    • Executes and adheres to quality assurance requirements.
    • Provides all functions for total Client satisfaction with exceptional services.
    • Associate in Computer Aid Drafting and Design (CADD) or Civil Engineering Associate commensurate related technical program preferred, but not required. Alternate training and experience will be considered in lieu of an Associate Degree.
    • On-the-job experience with development of roadway and/or structural construction documents is preferred to show new assignments technical skills
    • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience is preferred

    Professional Geotechnical Engineer

    Paducah, KY Location

    Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering and Testing, Inc. (BFW), a Paducah based engineering firm, is actively seeking a Professional Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in our Paducah, KY office.  This candidate will serve as a Project Engineer and will direct geotechnical related field and office services for a wide variety of projects and clients under the limited direction of a Principal Geotechnical Engineer.

    Essential Job Functions:


    • Planning, implementing and managing geotechnical projects including preparing geotechnical proposals, performing field investigations, engineering analysis, preparing comprehensive geotechnical and construction related recommendations to clients both verbally and in written reports.
    • Developing proposals – management of proposals including cost estimate and proposal preparation, reviewing of invoicing and collections.
    • Managing personnel – providing management and technical direction to drill crews, subconsultants, technicians and other staff that may be associated with projects under your supervision.
    • Coordinating with in-house geotechnical laboratory and assigning appropriate geotechnical laboratory testing of rock and soil samples from subsurface investigations or materials testing personnel.  Reviewing all data compilation and laboratory results.
    • Reviewing and completing boring logs and other data compilation for client reports and conduct engineering analysis and prepare draft design recommendations for subsurface reports.
    • Conducting engineering analysis which may include slope stability, shallow or deep foundation bearing capacity (piles, drilled shafts, auger cast piles), settlement and seepage.

    Essential Job Functions:


    • Engineering design experience should include the capability of designing the following: retaining walls (including MSE), embankments and pavements.
    • Knowledge of rock slope design (not required, but preferred).
    • Being familiar with KYTC, IDOT and TDOT geotechnical requirements.
    • Being familiar with geotechnical software including gINT, slope stability analysis software
    (e.g. GSTABL7 or Slide), deep foundation software, Arc GIS and LRFD design.
    • Having knowledge of industry standard computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS and proficiency in Bentley In-Roads, preferred
    • Being responsible for budget management, client updates and general project management tasks

    Primary Qualifications:


    • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering
    • 5 to 7 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
    • Kentucky Professional Registration or other state with reciprocity with Kentucky, or ability to obtain within a few weeks
    • Expertise with foundation design (shallow and deep), slope stability design and evaluations, settlement analysis and seismic related design and evaluation
    • Excellent communication skills, report writing and customer relation skills.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have related experience in consulting engineering practice and familiarity with Allpile or LPile, GSTABL7 or Slide.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of team
    • Willingness to travel to cover out-of-town overnight projects
    • Ability to work overtime on an as-needed basis.
    • Must have clean driving record in US
